Do You Really Need A Professionally Installed Home Security System?

There are two different kinds of home security systems: professional systems and do-it-yourself systems. Professional systems are provided by companies that will install and monitor your alarm systems. Do-it-yourself-systems are usually a wireless system that you can buy at any home security store or hardware store.

How do you decide between the two? Well, there are a few factors that you should consider before opting for either.

Do it yourself systems can be bought from almost any hardware or home security store. These systems are usually wireless systems that require some basic setup. When compared to professional systems, do-it-yourself systems are of lower quality but often cost half as much. Since these systems don't provide you with the best quality, they should really only be used if you live in a small apartment or home and don't have any children or expensive possessions. These systems are obviously better than nothing but at the same time they won't provide you with the utmost protection. Then again, we're not all made of money so you have to do what you have to do right? They're certainly better than no security system at all!

If you want more protection than the standard do-it-yourself system, perimeter guards might be the answer you're looking for. These types of systems are great for someone who wants more protection but doesn't want to spend that much more money. Perimeter guards are sensors that surround the perimeter of your house and are programmed to set of an alarm when someone passes through the sensor. These systems are programmed to not be set off a wandering dog or other animal and they can identify the weight and shape of an object and thus, not usually misfire. An intruder must pass through these sensors to get close to your house but having an alarm go off when they get in close will almost always have them running away with (unless their idiots) their tail between their legs. This will give you plenty of time to call the police and get your family to safety.

Professionally installed systems are obviously a lot more expensive than the do it yourself systems but for obvious reasons. Professionally installed systems come with a guarantee that your system is working at its optimal performance. You also have the luxury of having your house monitored by the installation company; you won't have to worry if you're away on a vacation or at work as they will call the proper authorities and alert you of any suspicious activity. Ah, the wonders of technology!

Professionally installed systems are obviously better then the do-it-yourself ones but that doesn't mean that they're right for everyone. Not everyone needs a state of the art home security system and if you live alone and don't have too many expensive possessions then a basic do-it-yourself setup should suffice just fine. If, however, you have children, a lot of expensive possessions and live in a sketchy neighborhood then maybe a professional system is better for you. In the end, the choice is ultimately up to you so choose wisely!
